Bethlehem police charged Anthony Delgado III, of the 100 block of East Chew Street, with five counts each of attempted homicide and reckless endangerment in connection to the shootout Friday night inside an East Sixth Street apartment.
District Judge Robert Hawke arraigned the 35 year old early Saturday morning, setting bail at $1 million.
Police said the incident began unfolding early Friday as Delgado engaged in a running argument with Haydee Delgado and David Spence over text messages and phone calls. Investigators said the Delgados have been separated for about a year and had been arguing Friday about custody of their son for the weekend.
After Delgado began insulting his wife, Spence reportedly told him not to threaten her, prompting Delgado to allegedly threaten the boyfriend, according to court records.
Delgado began pounding on the door, demanding that his wife hand over his son. Spence allegedly argued with Delgado as Haydee Delgado told her husband to leave. When Delgado asked if Spence was behind the door, he allegedly fired and shot his wife, according to court records.
Police report Delgado kicked in the door and chased Spence through the apartment to a bedroom, where he allegedly shot Spence in the head through the closed door.
Haydee Delgado sister, who lived downstairs, tried to get the boy out of the apartment with the help of the alleged shooter mother. Spence made his way to the stop of the stairs, and Delgado fired at him over the heads of his son, mother and sister in law, striking Spence twice in the right arm.
